Currently, our congregation is leasing 2500 sq. ft. of space in a quiet commercial center. This is a temporary measure, inasmuch as for normal function and growth, the parish needs its own spacious piece of property on which could be situated:
- a church according to all canonical Orthodox architectural principles
- a spacious fellowship hall for various parish and church functions
- a children’s playground and an area for outdoor activities
- a parking lot
- a home for the elderly and/or a kindergarten and school
All of this is in plans for the future. For now we must make a concrete goal: to acquire a piece of property in an area accessible to parishioners, preferably with an existing structure that can be renovated for the present needs of the parish.
With this in mind, we are collecting funds and looking for such a property in Jacksonville and its suburbs.
The specific objective for this present phase is to amass $100,000 in the building fund. This would be sufficient for a down payment (20% of total cost) and initial expenditures for providing infrastructure and amenities for the land and building.
As of November 2014, we have collected approximately $40,000.
